Coaches : Team Policies

UNIFORMS

  • All players must have uniforms with identifying numbers.
  • All players on a team must have the same color uniforms.  In addition, any shirt under a tanktop jersey in basketball should match the jersey color.
  • Numbers on each uniform should meet the size requirements for that sport. Basketball requires 4 inch numbers on the front and 6 inch numbers on the back. It is important that volleyball players have a number on front of the shirt as well as the back.
  • To preclude the tracking of dirt on the gym floors, game shoes must be carried, not worn, to games in the gymnasiums.
  • To save money, CYO Athletics suggests that parish athletic associations buy T-shirts only for teams up through 5th grade.
  • No sponsorships shall be included on team uniforms.

NOTE: Officials shall use their own good judgment in handling of duplicate numbers and other aspects of uniform problems.

GAME EQUIPMENT

Each team will be responsible for providing all necessary equipment needed for its own team.

  • All teams must have a first aid kit that includes ice packs.
  • All game equipment must meet the requirements for that sport, unless otherwise specified in the supplemental rules of CYO Athletics.

INSURANCE

Each parish is individually responsible for ensuring that all participants in CYO Athletics activities are adequately covered by the proper insurance, or that their parents have signed a parish liability release form.

NOTE: CYO Athletics carries no activity insurance and assumes no responsibility for same.

LEAGUE STANDINGS

In the 6th grade and up, league standings will be published in a timely manner on the CYO Athletics scheduling website.

  • The coach of the winning team (both teams in case of a tie in soccer) each week for playoff eligible divisions will be responsible for either calling in (206.654.4643) or emailing (cyoscores@seattlearch.org). to report the game score by Sunday evening. Failure to report a score so that it can be posted and verified by end of business day the following Friday will result in a loss. In case of a tie, if one team does not report the score, it results in a loss for the team that did not report it. It is recommended that coaches call in on game day to report. The score report should include the name of the team, the grade level, the gender, the division (i.e. North, AA Central or AAA South) in addition to the score listing who won and who lost.
  • The following procedure will be used when ties in the final league standings involve tournament participation:
    • a) The team that beat the other team or teams during league play will be awarded the higher position, or
      b) If this procedure does not break the tie, the commission may eliminate those teams not having a certified coach.
      c)  Additional criteria for breaking ties may be used by the commissions.  These criteria will be discussed at the coaches meeting.

If none of these criteria apply, then additional games might be scheduled as necessary.

    TOURNAMENTS

Each varsity grade division (starting in the 6th grade) will be eligible to participate in the CYO Athletics post-season playoff tournaments. Commissioners for each sport will determine the number of teams qualifying, and the tournament format will be handed out as soon as possible. Pre-season and Christmas tournaments are available to CYO Athletics teams on an entry or invitational basis. Check with the CYO Athletics office for specific information.

    TEAM AWARDS

    • Each grade division CYO Athletics post-season playoff tournament runner-up will receive a 2nd place trophy.
    • Each grade division CYO Athletics post-season playoff tournament champion will receive a 1st place trophy.

    SPIRIT OF SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS

Teams will receive spirit of sportsmanship awards at the championship games/matches/meets based on observation of CYO Athletics staff and commissioners as well as peer input from opposing teams.

    DIVISIONS

Participants in activities of CYO Athletics will be divided into divisions based on grade level in school and in age (with more emphasis given to the individual’s grade level in school). A student may participate in a higher grade division, but not vice-versa. A student playing in a division above their grade level is subject to commission review and approval.
