What is Impact Retreat Ministry?
Impact is a comprehensive Retreat Ministry offered to Youth and Young Adults in the Archdiocese of Seattle. Rooted in the sacramental life of the Church, Impact offers retreats that facilitate personal growth and conversion. The goal of Impact is to invite young people to “come away” with our Lord: “And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him that he should not depart from them” (Luke 4:42). In this way, Impact answers the call to evangelization: “He said to them, ‘Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature’” (Mark 16:15).
Beginning in 2004 with the approval of Archbishop Brunett, the Archdiocesan Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry has been in the process of developing this very important ministry. Since this time, Impact has been taking shape and growing. In the spring of 2006, the first round of retreats was offered; these included High School Confirmation retreats, a Couples’ Marriage Discernment retreat, Hispanic Youth and Young Adult retreats, and others. This coming Fall 2012 and Spring 2013, Impact will offer many of these same retreat themes as well as expand their offerings. For more information on these retreats, email Joy Galvez at firstname.lastname@example.org.
