Young Adult Ministry : Service Opportunities

Saturdays in Service

We are always seeking ways to encourage young adults to participate in service to those in need and to their community. At the moment, we are partnering with Catholic Community Services, and their Volunteer Chore Services division, to provide opportunities for this to take place. Other partnerships will be considered as well. We hope to be a visible sign of God’s love to the local community by serving the poor and vulnerable. In addition to helping those we serve, we believe that this program will help grow the faith of the young adults who participate as well, as they get to live out the most basic of Christ’s commands.

“Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant…for the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mk. 10:43-45

Some possible projects may include:

-          Volunteer chore services for the elderly

-          Helping maintain our Catholic camps

-           Working at a food bank

-          Crisis pregnancy center

-          Serving homeless “tent cities”

-          Caring for local migrant families

Commitment in 2012!

We look foward to a long term partnership with Volunteer Chore Services, and have coordinated a consistent, monthly opportunity – through VCS – to help others in our community and build relationships with Catholic young adults and those we serve.
During 2012, on the second Saturday of every month, from 10 am – 1 pm, we will help with general housekeeping at one of two residence buildings; vacuuming, dusting, sweeping and mopping, doing dishes, and taking care of trash and recycling. We hope to attend mass together that day, and/or share a meal after finishing our work.
The first service opportunity is Saturday, December 10th from 10-1 at the Lake City House (14337 – 32nd Ave NE, Seattle 98125).

If you are able, we invite you also to join us for daily mass at 9:00 am at St. Mark’s in Shoreline before heading to the Lake City House. Starting our morning with mass will help us serve with prayerful hearts and a joyful attitude, as well as draw us together as a faith community.
